ST. LOUIS GATEWAY ARCH

Case Study

ArchLrg

Strong Lighting worked with lighting designer Randy Burkett to light the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

Strong Lighting worked closely with Burkett to develop 44 customized 3k Xenon fixtures to meet the demanding needs of lighting this monument.

The fixtures needed to be modified to allow for the management of beam intensity and diffusion levels to allow for an even distribution of light on this highly reflective stainless steel surface while being operated permanently in harsh outdoor conditions.

The project requirements included that the client needed to be able to ensure that the illumination of the Arch could be cut-off when there are low hanging clouds that interfere with the display or when birds were migrating through the area.

Strong Lighting was responsible for designing and manufacturing all of the custom lighting equipment along with a custom control system to meet the needs of the client.
